How To Change Computer Name In Ubuntu 12.10

When I first installed Ubuntu Linux, I don’t know the importance of device name or computer name, later after familiarized with Linux I found some difficulties in the default bar-code like computer name. Yea, I agree it’s my own fault because that time I don’t aware that Ubuntu lets you set a custom computer name during the setup process. Unfortunately I went through the default process and it created a device name according to my computer hardware and it looks like a bar-code now.

Today we are going to show you how you can change the default computer name in Ubuntu Linux 12.10

Step 1 : Press Alt+ F2 on your keyboard

It will open the dashboard where you can enter the RUN command

Step 2 : Now you can type and enter gksu gedit /etc/hostname /etc/hosts

Step 3: Now you need to supply your root password for Ubuntu 12.10

Step 4: A new window will pop-up,same as below

Step 5: Just edit the computer name in hostname tab also edit the computer name in the hosts tab too.

It’s time to save this file and reboot your computer to see the changes.
