Everything You Need To Know About Buying iPhone5

Who knew that a company started in a garage by two college dropouts, will one day become the most valuable company of the world? Yeah! I am talking about “Apple Computers” which started with computers and smartly added “iDevices” i.e. iPod, iPhone and iPad. On September 12, 2012 Apple launched its 6th version of iPhone with name “iPhone 5”.

Yesterday, few of my friends were discussing excitedly about iPhone 5 on Facebook, it is then when I decided to explore more about it. This article is all about my findings, and I believe you will find answers to all your FAQs about iPhone 5 here.

Looks

As compared to iPhone4S, iPhone 5 is thinner (by 18%,7.6mm/0.3 inches thick) and Lighter (by 20%, weighs 112g/4oz) with a taller screen (4 inches diagonally then 3.5 in iPhone 4S), though portrait mode has same width. In contrast to glass, iPhone 5 has its back and sides made up of single piece of aluminium which is something similar to past versions of the iPod touch and iPad. Color wise, it is still “white with silver” and “black with slate” only. With bigger screen, apps will have to be resized and old apps will appear letterboxed.

Camera

It has still 8 megapixels sensor size, but claim better low light performance. The reason behind better low light performance is the image processing chip, which has spatial noise reduction with a system to analyse which specific parts of the image needs noise reduction, and which part should be left alone. New panorama mode has been introduced where final result capture is of 240 degrees. It has a sapphire crystal, hardest thing you can think for a lens. Claim is of 40% fast image capture due to 4G network.

Processor, SIM and Speed

Processor has been upgraded from A5 (iPhone 4S) and A5X (iPad) to a new A6 chip. CPU speed and graphics power is twice, when compared with iPhone 4S.As a habit to make sleek and beautiful devices, this time Apple has introduced relatively small and thin SIM card. It has replaced the micro SIM card with a nano SIM.

Network and Connectivity

The iPhone 5 will work upon 4G network. In next few weeks network will be launched. If in case you are on some other network then you have to wait until spectrum auction, after which you will be able to use the 4G services. In case 4G is unavailable in your area, then it will go back down to 3G. The new iPhone 5gives you 150Mbps maximum (Wi-Fi) connectivity speed.

Network and Connectivity

Battery Backup

It has 8 hours of 3G talk time(same as 4S), 8 hours of (LTE) 4G web browsing (up from the 6 hours the 4S gets over 3G).New iPhone 5 has 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing which is 1 hour up from the iPhone4S. It also has 30 hours of video and standby has been improved to 225 hours (200 hours in iPhone 4S).

Dock connector

In iPhone 5 the dock connector has been replaced with a lightening dock connector which is 80% smaller than the old 80 pin connector. Unlike USB, there’s no up or down to the plug so it can be plugged either way. There is a bad news; because of accessories won’t work and that is not something you would love in iPhone5.  Cost of new lightening connector is £25/$29 per adapter. Apple will also sell a Lightning-to-USB cable for $19 and a Lightning-to-30-pin cable for $39.If this is too much cost then you have to rely upon third party adapters which may come up in future with cheaper options.

Audio

Apple has also upgraded the Audio features. Now earbuds are called EarPods. There are three microphones—on the front, back and bottom. Interestingly, they have included noise cancelling without the need for external specialized headphones which will help you hear “the voice on the other end” more clearly. The speaker’s and voice call’s quality has also been improved.
