How To Fix : A Plugin ( Shockwave Flash ) Isn’t Responding On Google Chrome
Past few days was really annoying,My Google chrome windows client got crashed most of the time when I open any web page,Later I found this issue was only happening in my Google chrome web browser.All other browsers including internet explorer,Mozilla firefox are working fine.
I discussed this issue with my few colleagues and as per them it was due to the Google chrome confusion ? Because if your computer already have a flash version installed and your google chrome also have a internal installation of flash,the net result is serious browser lag and sudden crash of all active flash instances.
Once all your Google chrome flash instances got crashes you will get a message A plugin ( Shockwave Flash ) Isn’t Responding.Stop Plugin or The following plugin has crashed: Shockwave Flash.
What you will do in this case? There is actually no any problems with flash but the multiple flash instances causing this Google chrome bug.Now let you know how it fix this issue.
Step 1 : Open your Google chrome and in the address bar type ” about:plugins ” and enter.Now you will get all the active plugins on your Google chrome installation.In my case you can see the complete list below.
Step 2 : Now check for flash plugin from the list.In my case you can see Flash (3 Files).If your Google chrome browser also showing entries like this means there is flash conflict between the three adobe flash instances.
Step 3 : Now expand the Plugins by pressing the + Details button on the upper right hand corner and look for the Flash (3 Files).In my case you will see three different installations of flash.
Step 4 : Next step is to disable the links for chrome’s internal installation of Flash. Some of you may be got confused how to find out which one is Google chrome internal installation of flash ? Don’t worry ! It is very easy to catch,it will be in Google chrome’s AppData folder.The windows adobe flash instance will be found in the folder named Windows.
If you look into my case I have two instances of internal adobe flash installations on my Google chrome windows client, also there you can see one windows installation of flash,a total of three flash installations.
Make sure you are disabling the right flash installation.In my case I have to diable two instances of flash from my Google chrome.
Step 5 : Restart Google chrome and start normal browsing.
Please not that you just now disabled internal flash installation on Google chrome,Means when ever Google chrome updates automatically you will not get upgraded to the latest flash version.It should be done through adobe flash auto updater or manual update from your PC.

I have the same problem with my Google chrome and I followed your steps. However in my case i can see only 2 files and not 3 files. I dont have Windows folder link file in my plugins. What should I do then.

As you told ,you have two flash installations running in your Google chrome.In this case you have to look in to the version of flash player.For example it will be ,Shockwave Flash 11.3 r31 and Shockwave Flash 11.3 r30,Keep the newer version and disable the old version. Simple !!
If your two Flash installations got same version( rare case ) disable one. !!

I’m not a genius when it comes to computers so I really don’t want to download anything that might cost me a bundle later on but my chrome really sucks right now. Constantly saying Shockwave plug in isn’t responding it’s pissing me off! And that ‘s being nice. I have Internet explorer 8 but not 7. please help me.

You don’t need to be a genius to fix this issue ! Most of the readers commented here that they are able to fix the shockwaveplugin issue on their chrome browser.Just follow the steps mentioned on the article.

I think in this case checkout the Google Chrome version? May be you are running any beta version of chrome.Better switch to a stable version and try again.
How do I switch Chrome versions? I have the same problem but only have one version of Flash. I’ve tried a lot of sites for help some suggest emptying cache (didn’t work) one had me type no-sandbag at the end of the target address under Chrome properties (didn’t work) one said to change default file to backup default but couldn’t figure out how to do it. Any other suggestions or a more detailed explanation of how to do the last one would be greatly appreciated.

i followed the instruction but the thing is.i don’t have double or triple flash files.mine is just adobe flash player and shockwave flash player.so i don’t know what to do.
I have a single flash file (adobe flash player) and am still facing the issue.. any idea?

Here I see many people telling they have only single flash file , for their attention let me tell you Flash Player since version 11.2 uses hardware video acceleration on most platforms ..most of the vendors already released the fix to support flash video acceleration but some vendors may be still having some issues with different platforms ..I have only few suggestions for them ,
1. Check the flash version, if it is outdated get the latest from below link http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
2. Re-install your Google Chrome.
Ok, so I have been having this plug in problem all day, and I was lucky enough to stumble upon your article here. I followed the first step and got to my plug ins, but when I got there, there was no “Flash” plug in, and non of my plug ins say there are more than 1 file. I’m getting the exact message that you have up on your screen shot, but there is no option for me to disable it, like you said to. HELP?

Ok, ok, so one other thing that I just noticed. The very first plug in is “Adobe Flash Player” and underneath the little heading that says that, it says “Shockwave Flash.” I don’t thing I want to disable Adobe, but this issue isn’t going away. What is happening?
I hope you now find the option to disable the flash instance in chrome ! Just give it a try, if no success better check your adobe flash version.
I hope you are on windows platform, if yes then go to Start—search box or Run –type in Appwiz.cpl and enter .It will now show you the installed apps in your computer.

I’m also having the same problems but on my list i dont have more than 1 file as there is no number in brackets! I do however have Adobe shockwave player version: 11.6.3r633 and Adobe flash player version: 11.5.31.137, does this mean i need to disable one of these two? Because i also have a Divx plug in aswell, if so which one do i get rid of? This problem is so bad i can hardly use my internet. Many thanks 🙂

I also only have one version, I have tried reinstalling Chrome 5 times and also tried updating Flash but it keeps telling me I have the most recent version. This is driving me crazy – someone please help!
I tried to do this but, I don’t have a section that says “Flash (3 files)” but I have one for “Adobe Shockwave Player” and “Adobe Flash Player”.
When I restart Chrome (Version 24.0.1312.57 m) it re-enables the built-in one!
I have reinstalled the latest version of chrome and flash and disabled the chrome version of flash. but every time i re-open chrome, both the versions r running….it doesnt retain the disabled option….how to fix this? plz help

same. one flash, re-installed, no option to disable, latest version of flash. still have an issue. Now i just wait 15 secs, then it disappears and then I can play farmville games.

But if I’m open Car Town on Facebook, the problem with error message : “A PLUGIN ( SHOCKWAVE FLASH ) ISN’T RESPONDING” still happenstill happen..

and disable the Shockwave Flash 11.6 r602

Only had one Flash when opened, so still having the problem. I suppose mine is a different issue.
